A report by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) addresses the state of health information technology, including in view of the HITECH Act and meaningful use.
The recommendations by PCAST, if adopted, would profoundly impact electronic health record vendors, health care providers, and governmental agencies. An ONC working group is reviewing the findings by PCAST.
In part, it proposes a system of universal exchange language for electronic health record information and a digital infrastructure for locating patient records while strictly ensuring patient privacy and that ONC and CMS jointly develop such guidelines.
