The federal government will present oral arguments today to a three-judge panel at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta for State of Florida et al. v. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services et al. (Docket No. 11-11021). The federal government has appealed a ruling by a Florida judge who declared the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. By way of background, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a federal law which focuses on reform of private health insurance. The intent of the federal law is to increase access to healthcare and slow the growth of healthcare costs. The law requires all individuals to buy health insurance.
It is anticipated that a ruling by the 11th Circuit will take months and that, regardless of the outcome, an appeal may be made to the US Supreme Court.
CSPAN-RADIO is scheduled to replay the 11th Circuit oral arguments at 3:45PM today. http://www.c-span.org/Schedules/C-SPAN-Radio-Schedule/
