The deadline for requesting a hardship exemption for the 2012 Medicare Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program adjustment is November 1, 2011.  According to CMS, beginning in 2011, eligible professionals who are not successful electronic prescribers may be subject to a payment adjustment on their future

CMS has recently updated its EHR frequently asked questions about the federal incentive program for the meaningful use of electronic health records.  The most recent update pertains to guidance for critical access hospitals.  The FAQ also discusses how eligible professionals and hospitals apply for incentives under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive program.

According to the PA Department of Welfare website, Pennsylvania’s EHR Incentive program has paid $13.4 million to eligible hospitals and $6.1 million to eligible professionals since its launch on June 6, 2011.

Generally, providers can only participate in either the Medicare or Medicaid EHR incentive program each year.
